To choose a welding table clamp, first match the system: System 28 clamps fit 28 mm tables with Ø28 mm bores on a 100 mm grid, and System 16 clamps fit 16 mm tables with Ø16 mm bores on a 50 mm grid. Then pick the type by job. Use a professional screw clamp for general hold-down with controlled force, a fast tension clamp for fast repeat clamping, a pipe clamp or pipe elbow clamp for tube and round stock, and a quick-change or vertical toggle clamp for fixtures. Finally, check force and reach. On siegmund.com, System 28 clamps list up to 7 kN (Professional Screw Clamp XL) and System 16 clamps up to 2.5 kN.
Start with your table: System 16 or System 28
Start with the table, not the clamp. A clamp mounts in the bores of your table, so the bore size decides which clamps you can use. System 28 parts also fit other 28 mm system welding tables with Ø28 mm bores on a 100 mm grid. System 16 parts also fit other 16 mm system welding tables with Ø16 mm bores on a 50 mm grid. Clamps are not interchangeable between the two systems. Check your bore size before you order and you will save yourself a return. Welding table clamp types
Screw clamps

Screw clamps are the everyday hold-down clamp, and most shops start here. On System 28 there is the Professional Screw Clamp, the Professional Screw Clamp XL for tasks that need extra force, and the Professional Screw Clamp 45°/90°, which rotates from 0° to 360° and replaces separate 45° and 90° screw clamps. On these System 28 professional screw clamps, the hex socket at the top of the handle lets you set the clamping force precisely with a torque wrench. Once your setup is dialed in, you can repeat the same force every time.

On System 16 you can choose the Professional Screw Clamp, the Professional Screw Clamp 45°/90°, the Basic Screw Clamp (a simple, sturdy clamp where the distance to the part is set by rotation) and the Screw Clamp with Round Pipe, which Siegmund lists for simple clamping applications.
Fast tension and quick-change clamps

For repeat clamping, speed matters more than fine force control. No one wants to spin a handle fifty times a shift. The System 28 Professional Fast Tension Clamp and System 16 Professional Fast Tension Clamp are ratchet clamps; you set the force with the grating. System 28 also offers conventional Fast Tension Clamps in four sizes and the Quick-Change Clamp in 100 and 160 versions, which mounts in the system bores. Ready-made kits are in the System 28 Fast Clamping Equipment and System 16 Fast Clamping Equipment collections.
Toggle clamps

When you need to clamp straight down, the System 28 Professional Screw Clamp with Vertical Action Toggle clamps vertically from above, which Siegmund says gives maximum clamping stability. It comes as a standard and a 45°/90° version.
BTH Sales also carries Kifix toggle clamps as a separate product line.
Pipe and elbow clamps

Round stock is where a flat-bar clamp runs out of ideas. For tube and round stock on System 28, the Basic Pipe Clamp 90° clamps at 90° to the bores and rotates through 360°, the Basic Pipe Clamp 180° adjusts horizontally from 45 to 180 mm, and the Pipe Clamp Universal has a swivelling arbor for clamping at ±42°. System 16 has its own Pipe Clamp Universal, also with a ±42° arbor.

For elbows and bends, use the new Pipe Elbow Clamp: System 28 Pipe Elbow Clamp (2-280626.N) or System 16 Pipe Elbow Clamp (2-160626.N). Both have an interchangeable prism and are fastened with an adjusting ring. Siegmund describes them as compact with minimal interference contour, so they stay out of the way of your torch.
Spare parts
Siegmund builds its professional clamps so that spare parts can be ordered individually. You don't throw out a good clamp because one part wore out. Prisms, spindles, bars and other parts are in the System 28 Clamp Replacement Parts and System 16 Clamp Replacement Parts collections.
How to choose by job
| Job | Clamp to start with |
|---|---|
| Flat plate and sheet hold-down | Professional Screw Clamp (System 28 or 16) |
| Heavy sections, high force | System 28 Professional Screw Clamp XL |
| Repeat production | Professional Fast Tension Clamp, Fast Tension Clamps or Quick-Change Clamp |
| Angled parts | Professional Screw Clamp 45°/90° |
| Clamping from above | Professional Screw Clamp with Vertical Action Toggle |
| Tube and pipe | Basic Pipe Clamp 180° or Pipe Clamp Universal |
| Elbows and bends | Pipe Elbow Clamp |
System 16 vs System 28 clamps
Here is the short version. System 28 clamps use larger bars (for example 30x10 and 30x14 mm on the Professional Screw Clamp), list 2.5 to 7 kN maximum clamping force, and cover the widest range, including the XL, the quick-change clamp and the toggle clamps. System 16 clamps are more compact (20x10 and 20x13 mm bars on the Professional Screw Clamp), list 0.6 to 2.5 kN, and suit lighter work and smaller tables. Siegmund recommends the System 16 Professional Fast Tension Clamp only for System 16 plasma nitrided tables.
Reach and clamping force
The width × height figures below are the clamp's dimensions as Siegmund lists them, which gives you a working envelope: how far the clamp reaches out from its bore and how tall a part it can clamp over. Maximum clamping force is the manufacturer's maximum, not a target. Stay below it.
