Compatible vs. Genuine Siegmund Welding Tables

A "compatible" welding table is made by another manufacturer to accept clamps and accessories built for Siegmund's System 16 (16 mm bore) or System 28 (28 mm bore). It is not a Siegmund table and is not built to Siegmund's specification. A genuine Siegmund System 16 table has Ø16 mm boreholes on a 50x50 mm grid, and the Professional Extreme 8.7 version uses through-hardened X8.7 tool steel, plasma nitrided and BAR coated, at about 450–850 Vickers (Siegmund).

What "compatible" means

"Compatible" usually means the hole pattern and bore size are designed to accept clamps and accessories built for a given system, such as System 16 or System 28. It does not mean the table is made by Siegmund, or that it is built to Siegmund's specifications.

Sellers of compatible tables generally describe them as compatible with a 16 mm or 28 mm system, which is an honest distinction and worth knowing before you compare prices. If you see a table advertised as Siegmund by a seller you don't recognise, call us before you buy.

Compatible tables are built by many different manufacturers, often from different steels and with different hardening and machining standards, so quality can vary from one maker to the next. Ask any seller what steel, hardness and machining process their table uses.

A note on fairness: System 16 and System 28 differ in bore and clamp size, so compare like with like. Other 28 mm or 16 mm system tables should be compared against the matching Siegmund system.

Why a genuine Siegmund table costs more

A genuine Siegmund 2000x1000 System 16 table is $7,299 CAD; System 16 tables start at about $3,047 CAD (1000x500). Compatible tables are generally lower-cost.

We won't tell you a compatible table is bad. We'll tell you what the difference pays for: Siegmund's own materials and surface treatment, the full accessory system, and a Canadian company that stocks it, helps you set it up and answers the phone after the sale. A fixture table is a long-life asset. Compare it on what it will hold and for how long, and on who'll help you when you need it, not only on day-one price.

Warranty and returns

Warranty All new genuine Siegmund welding tables and accessories bought from BTH Sales, the exclusive Canadian Siegmund dealer, are warranted against defects in material and workmanship for 12 months from the date of delivery. If a covered defect appears, BTH Sales will repair or replace the item, at our option.

What's not covered: normal wear and tear; damage from improper or negligent handling; overloading or excessive strain; unsuitable operating materials; accidents; and repairs or modifications not carried out or authorized by BTH Sales or Siegmund.

Check your delivery on arrival. Inspect your shipment as soon as it arrives. If the packaging or product is damaged, note it on the carrier's delivery receipt (or refuse the delivery) and contact us right away with photos.

Returns: You may return items within 30 days of delivery. Contact us first for a return authorization; we cannot accept returns sent without one. Items should come back in their original condition and packaging. You pay return freight unless the return results from a BTH error (wrong item, defect or shipping damage). In that case, we cover it.

This warranty is in addition to any rights you have under applicable consumer protection law.

When a compatible table is the right call

If you're setting up a hobby or occasional-use bench and price is the deciding factor, a compatible table may be the right call. If you run production or repeat fixture work, or you're adding to an existing Siegmund setup, a genuine table is worth seeing in person first, and it's worth knowing who'll back it up.
